Tri-Tip Steak with Blue Cheese

I was just running a crafting workshop at my friend's store last week and someone was grumbling about figuring out what to make for dinner. We all ended up chiming in about how it's one of our least favorite chores and about how trying to figure out dinner plans every single day is one of the worst things about being an adult. Feeding a family day in and day out is tedious, isn't it? As we're winding down into the last few weeks of the school year and gearing up for long summer days, I am always on the hunt for recipes that take some of the mental load off my plate. I need something that has just a few ingredients and not a lot of cook time because my days are already stressful enough, and I'm sure yours are as well. That's why I've been hoarding simple recipes, like this Tri-Tip Steak with Blue Cheese from Golden Blossom Honey, to help ease the burden of what to make for dinner on a busy weeknight.

This is a recipe that you can have on the table in 20 minutes, so it's perfect for busy weeknights or lazy day meal planning. My husband remarked that the house smelled just like Christmas when I'm tasked with baking a roast and taking it to my mom's house, so this could even pass for a fancy-ish meal if you have guests coming over for dinner. I didn't have any bourbon on hand, but whisky made a great substitute for an amazingly delicious sauce. Since my husband is allergic to blue cheese, I didn't serve him any steak with it, but I do think you could replace that with brie, feta, or crumbled goat cheese and that would pair well with the beef too. Before long we'll be looking for grilling recipes, so while we're still in the chilly spring days (at least in Indiana), sooner rather than later would be a good time to give this recipe a try.

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds tri-tip, sirloin or flank steaks

coarse ground black pepper

2 tablespoons butter

2/3 cup canned beef broth

1/4 cup brandy

2 tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY

2 teaspoons fresh rosemary, chopped

4 tablespoons blue cheese, crumbled

  1. Ooh that crafting workshop sounds fun :) I totally agree about the daily cooking. I make a point of only making those meals that are max 30 min. I would probably opt for the goat cheese as well in this particular recipe. Your steak looks amazing! Btw, it is still chilly here. Have a beautiful weekend ahead!

  2. My mouth is watering just looking at the picture. I have been craving steak, so I’m going to save this recipe. It’s really amazing how many different ways honey can be used.

    1. I never realized how many recipes honey could be incorporated into before partnering with Golden Blossom Honey. We're over 10 years into weekly posts with no signs of slowing down on the recipe list yet!

  4. I love blue cheese. And steak with blue cheese is such a great mix. Washed down with red wine and with chips on the side.

  6. 20 mins isn't too bad. One good thing about a bland diet, I never have to worry about meals.

Geez, making it smell like Christmas in May. Now you're skipping ahead too far. You even missed halloween.

    1. Always moving too far ahead, never appreciating the present, I suppose LOL. Would it surprise you that I still have some of my Halloween decorations up that I've been too busy to take down? At this point, we're less than half way back to the holiday, so I should just leave them be, no?

    2. Haha doesn't surprise at all. Yeah, may as well leave em at this point.

  7. Most cheeses upset my ARFID. Mozzarella really is my only safe cheese

  8. It is interesting that in my country diner or supper, the evening meal, is not something we cook, we cook lunch, whether it is at noon or at 3 or 4pm, it is the main meal, for dindins we just make a sandwich or something like that, the same for breakfast. I cook in the mornings so I don't think I would respond well to having to cook in the evenings lol

    1. It's probably why we Americans have such a hard time losing weight as well. We eat the large meal shortly before slowing down for the day. It would make much more sense health-wise to have the bigger meal at lunch.

  11. OMG, I can't stand it! And I usually like the taste of most things. It's so unpleasant to me that I can't understand why people like it!

    1. I was pissed when Jason brought me a salad home with blue cheese on it. Like, we've been together for almost 30 years. How could you not know at this point that it's one of the few cheeses I despise LOL
