Wizarding World of Harry Potter

When I was pregnant with my first child I had all of these dreams that we were going to be so close. We were going to do everything together. I was going to be the cool mom. The one she shared everything with. Plans didn't quite pan out when I realized she was just like her dad, and just plain liked him better. Which is good. I love that they have a great bond! But I admit, there are times that I struggle to connect with her like he does.

When we planned our Disney trip we knew we wanted to squeeze in time for Universal Studios simply because that's where the Wizarding World of Harry Potter was. I was pregnant with Mariah when I read the first book and completely fell in love with the series. The books have been in our home her whole life, and when I felt she was old enough, passed them on to her. She was even more hooked than I was, and Harry Potter has been a staple in her life ever since. Yes, she is a nerd and proud of it ;)

My husband didn't care either way about going to the attraction. He never read the books or watched the movies, so that is the one thing I hold over him when it comes to our daughter. Getting to experience the attraction with Mariah was actually the highlight of our entire trip for me. It was great sharing her excitement over pointing out things she loved from the books, dining at The Three Broomsticks (even though lunch for 4 cost us $100!) and being the one that she wanted to ride the rides with. And I got offered a taste of her chocolate frog and her dad didn't. Take that Jason! I think there is also a Harry Potter attraction in New York that I would love to go to with her some day. Until then, here are a few photos we have to remember this trip by.

Do you love Harry Potter too? Have you been to Wizarding World of Harry Potter?

  1. I am wicked jealous. I love Harry Potter. I have been to Universal a couple of times, but the last time was about 10 years ago, so HP wasn't there back then. We go to Disney every year, but we only do Disney - and stay right in the park, so we haven't done Universal yet. My little guy is a little short still, so I am trying to hold off until he's older/grows a little so he can go on everything.

  2. Oh yes, my kids and I do love Harry Potter...and we hope to visit HP World at Universal one of these days! Did your daughter listen to the books on CD? My son used to fall asleep to them every night!

  3. My oldest loved Harry Potter and I would read them to him before he went to sleep every night...we both loved that!

My oldest and youngest are daddy's boys too, just for the record, so you're right, those moments when there's something special going on just between you and the kiddo are super awesome. :)

Glad you got to do the Harry Potter experience at Universal!

  4. Theresa! hi! morning! Glad you had that adventure with your daughter. Those times are priceless and she won't forget it. We, as a family, love Disneyland. Our memories there have fostered my oldest to become a Disney nerd and she loves it. She and her husband and their 3 daughters know every Disney movie/character and music to the point that it is nearly creepy. hahahaha. Thanks for loving my grandson's turkey hat. Loved your comments.

  6. Awh Theresa! thanks for the compliment on my shoes and my savings ability. I don't know what state you are in but I just went to Savers.com and put in several eastern states; PA, NJ, ML etc. and learned that some states don't have a Savers. dang. I thought they were nation wide. In WA state I know they go by a different name, but I can't recall it. They have an awesome bunch of stores here. My goodness gracious, I love it there.

  7. I googled it and it is "Value Village" in some other states. But I still did the location finder and several states don't have a Value Village, either. Hope that helped. see ya...........

  9. That would be SOOO much fun!!! Lucky you!! And that's so awesome that you and Mariah got to connect in only a way that you two could (instead of Jason for once! hehe). Emma is a daddy's girl and already takes after him a lot, so I think it will be similar with us, but I do know there's a couple things that her and I will only be able to relate to, unlike good ol' Daddy ;) hehe. So glad you guys had that time together!!
